Maxim 7.8.10

He who sins when drunk shall be punished when sober.

Explanation

Voluntary intoxication is no defense — a man who deliberately impairs his own judgment assumes responsibility for every act committed in that impaired state.

Where this applies

  • I was drunk when I committed the crime — does that reduce my punishment?
  • A person committed assault while intoxicated and claims they don't remember.
