(English-origin maxim.) Every legal wrong carries with it a corresponding damage — where a right is violated, the law presumes that harm has resulted, even without proof of specific monetary loss.

Where this applies

• A city demolishes a man's shed without due process — even without proving a dollar amount of loss, the violation of his property rights itself constitutes a legal damage.
• A government agency revokes a professional license without a hearing, and the court presumes damage from the wrongful revocation even before the licensee proves lost income.
• A school expels a student without following its own disciplinary procedures, and the court recognizes the procedural violation as a harm in itself.
