Maxim 9.2.9

An oath has three companions — truth, justice, and judgment.

Juramentum habet in se tres comites — veritatem, justitiam, et judicium.

Explanation

Truth inheres in the party swearing; justice and judgment inhere in the officer administering the oath. All three must be present for the oath to be lawful.
