Explanation

(English-origin maxim.) What the law itself commands or permits cannot constitute a legal wrong — an act done by operation of law injures no one in the eyes of the law.

Where this applies

• When a statute of limitations expires and bars a creditor's claim, the debtor is not "wronged" — the law itself produced that result.
• A property that passes to a new owner by operation of an intestacy statute does so without injury to anyone, because the transfer is the law's own act.
• When a court-ordered redistricting changes a voter's district, the voter has not been wronged, because the change was accomplished by lawful process.
