Maxim 9.6.6

Fraud corrupts everything it touches.

Explanation

Where fraud is established, it vitiates the entire transaction — no part of an instrument or proceeding tainted by fraud may stand, for the corruption extends to the whole.

Where this applies

  • The entire contract was based on fraud so the whole thing should be thrown out.
  • They used deception to get me to sign and now the whole agreement is tainted.
  • If fraud was involved the entire transaction is corrupted from start to finish.
