Maxim 8.1.30

It is the duty of a judge to finish the work of each day within that day.

Judicis officium est opus diei in die suo perficere.

Explanation

Judicial business must not be delayed or carried over indefinitely — a diligent judge disposes of the matters before him promptly.

Where this applies

  • My hearing was postponed because the judge didn't finish the previous cases.
  • Court backlogs are causing my case to be delayed month after month.
