Maxim 4.4.15

The principal being taken away, its adjunct is also taken away.

Explanation

When the principal thing is removed or destroyed, everything attached to or dependent upon it is likewise extinguished — the adjunct has no separate existence.

  • The principal thing is destroyed and everything attached to it is lost.
  • A main contract is voided and all amendments and addenda are also void.
