Maxim 4.3.3

Whatever is acquired by the servant is acquired for the master.

Quicquid acquiritur servo acquiritur domino.

Explanation

The acquisitions of a servant acting in that capacity belong to the master — the servant's hand is the master's hand.

Where this applies

  • An employee receives a gift from a vendor and the employer claims it.
  • Whatever a servant acquires in the course of employment belongs to the master.
