(English-origin maxim.) Every person has the right to pursue multiple trades, professions, or occupations — the law does not confine a man to a single calling.

Where this applies

• A city passes an ordinance requiring all barbers to practice only barbering and no other trade — a barber challenges the restriction, arguing the law cannot confine him to a single occupation.
• A doctor wants to also run a bakery on the side, and the medical board claims it's improper — the law does not prohibit a person from following multiple callings.
• A licensed electrician starts a landscaping business in his spare time; a competitor complains he should stick to one trade, but the law says he is free to pursue both.
