Maxim 1.5.131

The more worthy draws with it the less worthy.

Explanation

When two things of unequal dignity are joined, the lesser follows the greater — the principal thing governs the accessory.

Where this applies

  • A dispute about which part of a transaction is the principal and which is the accessory.
  • The main element of a deal governs the minor elements attached to it.
