He who confirms gives nothing.

Explanation

Confirmation is not a new grant — it strengthens what already existed. The confirmer creates no new right; he merely removes doubt about an existing one.

Where this applies

  • My confirmation of the deed doesn't create a new property right — it just removes doubt about the existing one.
  • Ratifying a past transaction doesn't add anything new — it just firms up what was already there.
