Fee-tail — that is, an inheritance within a certain limit.

Explanation

A fee-tail restricts the inheritance to a particular line of heirs — the estate descends only to the specified class and reverts when that line is exhausted.

Where this applies

  • Property is restricted to pass only to certain heirs.
  • A landowner wants to sell but the estate is limited to their direct descendants.
