Maxim 1.5.210

What a man does fraudulently, he does in vain.

Qui per fraudem agit, frustra agit.

Explanation

Fraud vitiates everything it touches — an act procured by fraud is void and confers no rights upon the fraudulent actor.

Where this applies

  • A contract was obtained through deception and the deceiver tries to enforce it.
  • A deed procured by fraud is challenged as void.
